Leading aircraft design and certification specialist, Aerospace Engineering Solutions (AES), is powering into 2023 with the launch of a new office in Malaga, Spain, as the company embarks on a phase of international expansion.

Trading as AES Spain, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AES, the new operation will enable the business to develop new partnerships with commercial and private aviation clients across Europe, which will benefit from the unrestricted level 2A Design Organisation Approval (DOA) capability held by AES.

Located at Malaga’s state-of-the-art business incubator technology park, BIC Euronova, AES Spain is the first DOA in Malaga and only the second in Andalucía. The new operation has also become a member of the Andalucía Aerospace cluster of more than sixty aerospace companies based in the region, for the purpose of fostering technological developments, potential project collaboration and strengthening its international presence.

In addition to a team of highly skilled design engineers, AES Spain has recruited two aerospace engineering graduates from the University of Malaga, as part of the company’s commitment to future-proofing its skills base.

Speaking at the launch of AES Spain, Anton Heissig, Director and Head of Design, said:

“The launch of our new office in Malaga is testament to the support of all the AES team, shareholders, clients and partners, which has enabled us to expand our international capacity as part of the company’s strategy for growth. We are proud to be the first DOA based in Malaga, which gives AES a solid footing in Europe and a deeper integration with our continental partners.

“We are also delighted to welcome new Spanish personnel onboard and look forward to building partnerships within the Andalucía Aerospace cluster, which we see as a valuable network for growing our presence within the European aviation community.”

Lola Lahoz, Malaga Design Office Manager and Deputy Head of Office of Airworthiness, commented:

Offering a wealth of experience repairing and refurbishing commercial aircraft interiors has led Jetglow Aircraft Refurbishments to identify several high-volume replacement parts and make significant savings on OEM costs to airline operators.

Alongside their carefully chosen Part 21J design partner – Aerospace Engineering Solutions – both companies have developed from concept to delivery Boeing 737 aftermarket scratch panes for cabin sidewall panels available for release on a Form 1 under Jetglow’s Part 21G approval. By bringing manufacturing capabilities to the UK, both companies can build on opportunities for the local market as well as saving airline’s significant costs.

The product – a protective screen used to eliminate airline passengers from touching the pressurized window, not only adds a layer of protection against contaminants but prevents passengers from touching sensitive areas of the aircraft.

Using CS25.853-compliant materials from carefully sourced suppliers and the collaboration of both companies’ capabilities with their highly skilled craftmanship and certified approvals, these high-volume replacement parts can be manufactured and supplied to airlines and MROs at aftermarket prices.

Jetglow Aircraft Refurbishment’s Technical Manager, James Lowrence comments:

“We’re delighted to be able to draw on our experience and expertise to offer aftermarket parts and complement our existing services to airlines and MRO’s – by acting as a one-stop-shop we’re in a great position to reduce costs for our customers. Working with the exceptional team at AES adds another layer of skill and confidence for our customers.”

Aerospace Engineering Solutions’ Director, Andrew Dolby also adds:

“We have been working closely with the Jetglow team for several months now on this project, delivering the design and engineering of scratch panes which benefits the airline industry.

“As an EASA 21J design organisation with a comprehensive scope of approvals and an ever-growing portfolio of products, the scratch pane solution is a great addition to our collection.”

Aerospace Engineering Solutions (AES), a UK and Ireland aerospace design and certification organisation, is proud to announce the company has been awarded by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the introduction of Full Economy Passenger Layout on Boeing 737NG aircraft types.

AES has developed this generic EASA STC (No. 10077620) for 189 cabin configurations and applies to the B737NG Family following the release of EASA Certification Memo CM-21.A-CS-001 Issue 02, the installation/reconfiguration of all aircraft cabins that involve 16G / 25.562 shall be considered as a Major (STC) change.

The STC has been established to add further variations under the agreement of the Agency providing an adaptable and innovative solution.

Andrew Dolby, Director of Aerospace Engineering Solutions, said “We are thrilled to add this STC for Full Economy Layout to our existing Design Approval capabilities.

“For over 20 years, AES has been at the forefront of integrated aerospace design and engineering having developed over 2500 aircraft interior cabin modifications and this quick turnaround by the agency (EASA) of the new STC is testament to our experience.”

Aerospace Engineering Solutions is delighted to be celebrating its 20th year in business. AES was founded on 4th September 2001 with a goal to provide innovative, high quality and cost-effective integrated aerospace design and engineering solutions.

Over the years the company has seen significant growth and has evolved into a centre of excellence offering EASA Part 21J design and certification services for the aviation industry.

We have been privileged to work with leading airlines, leasing companies and OEM’s across the globe delivering projects ranging from minor engineering changes to full aircraft retrofits. Our DOA approvals, capabilities, and experience, along with our strategic collaborations allow us to offer our complete turnkey solutions whilst maintaining a focus on excellent customer service.

We remain firmly committed to this goal and would like to take this opportunity to thank our employees, customers, and partners for their continued support.

Aerospace Engineering Solutions, a UK and Ireland aerospace design and certification organisation, is proud to announce the company has been awarded by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the installation of the aircraft-powered version of Bluebox Aviation System’s wireless in-flight entertainment (W-IFE) system, Bluebox Wow.

Recently issued by EASA, this latest STC (No. 10076801) applies to all Airbus A320 Variants with an added feature of an automatic Pause on PA functionality that pauses playback in the event of announcements from the flight deck or cabin crew.

AES believes this certification will open opportunities to provide aircraft operators of single-aisle, and wide-body aircraft in the future, with Bluebox’s aircraft-powered W-IFE units. The installation is simple with wiring to the W-IFE units easily accessible via the panels in the aircraft cabin. Utilising aircraft power eliminates the need for the logistical management of batteries and still offer a considerably lighter and lower-cost system than fully fitted W-IFE.

The Bluebox Wow units are delivered with Part 21G Form 1 approval and can be supplied with the associated installation kit as a total package.

Andrew Dolby, Director of AES, said “I would like to thank our dedicated and highly experienced engineering and design team here at AES for achieving this ‘game changing’ STC for the installation of Bluebox’s aircraft-powered version of Bluebox Wow on the Airbus A320 Variants, especially during these challenging times for the aviation industry. We are actively working on solutions for other models including single and wide-body aircraft.”

Aerospace Engineering Solutions is delighted to announce its Shannon, Ireland office has received full EASA Part21J Design Organisation Approval (DOA) further complimenting their UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Part21J Design Organisation Approval.

AES believe this approval structure will provide a transparent Supplemental Type Certification (STC)/Modification process following the UK’s departure from the EU. This approach will avoid the complication and risk associated to validation of STC’s, repairs and modifications between the respective regulatory bodies within the UK and EU.

This twin approval arrangement will provide our customers confidence so they can react quickly to the opportunities of a new aviation landscape.

Andrew Dolby, Director of AES, said “The company believes having both approvals will enable their customers to leverage the existing strong bilateral agreements between EASA and National Aviation Authorities.”

Adding further comment and introducing Aidan O’Leary as Director of Engineering in Ireland for AES, said “I am very excited to be leading the Irish expansion of a well-established, dynamic and growing company.  Obtaining EASA DOA approval in Ireland is testament to the experienced team at AES.”
